LLLT作用機制如下：人類細胞內粒線體內有細胞色素C氧化酶(cytochrome C oxidase)在吸收近紅外光後會釋放出一氧化氮基(NO) ，增加電子遷移、粒線體膜電位與ATP，從而增加新陳代謝率，增加局部血流量，也會導致抗氧化保護作用，有抗發炎作用，並且促成神經和突觸再生，使神經營養蛋白增加。紅光增強金屬蛋白酶(MMP)之表現，進而促成細胞外膠原蛋白生成及重組，剌激膠原蛋白生成的受動器分子是β轉換生長因子(TGF-β)，經由SMAD訊號路徑受到近紅外光調變。
